Design & Build with FSC Award: 2009 Winners
Residential Winner: Portico on the Green
"A real tour-de-force and a dramatic play between inside and exterior. The exuberance of the design is contained by a strong but simple composition of wood trim and roof. The Mission style wood detailing of the interior is also simple, extensive and tasteful, and almost all from sustainably managed forests!"

Residential Honorable Mention: Victoria Garden Mews
"It is always rewarding to see a project utilizing FSC-certified framing and structural materials because it's often hard for some people to justify a cost premium for wood products that are sealed up behind drywall. Most folks want people to see the FSC-certified wood they purchased and tell the story. However, most of the destructive forest practices in the U.S. take place in the softwood forests that produce the framing and structural components of a house. Ensuring that these building materials are FSC-certified is really having an impact in the forests."

Commercial / Institutional Winner: CityCenter
"WOW!!! Even though this big project in the desert will put increased demand on the water systems of the Southwest, it's still hard to deny CityCenter's huge green impact. As far as a project that has driven the national demand for FSC Chain of Custody suppliers and products, this is it — and it deserves to be recognized for that."

Commercial / Institutional Honorable Mention: Generation IM North America Headquarters
"The use of FSC-certified wood here is restrained yet expressive. The design uses the simple natural pattern and color of the selections to act as both background and furnishing. The presence of the wood finish is strong but balanced and clean. It offsets the minimalist lighting and office modules beautifully. What a calm but energetic place to work!"
