Anderson Lithograph Certified for Forest-Friendly Printing
(May 7, 2003) Anderson Lithograph has attained Chain-of-Custody certification under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) system, enabling it to offer customers the choice to print on paper that originates in responsibly managed forests. Anderson Lithograph is the first West Coast printer to be certified under the FSC system.
The certification, which applies to Anderson Lithograph's facilities in Los Angeles and South San Francisco, entitles Anderson Lithograph to apply the Forest Stewardship Council's "checkmark-and-tree" trademark logo to projects printed on FSC-certified paper.
FSC-certified paper is being specified with increasing frequency by companies and institutions that desire to demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibility. Obtaining FSC certification is the latest link in a growing chain of environmental accomplishments by Anderson Lithograph.
" The FSC Chain of Custody certification reflects Anderson Lithograph's commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices within our own facility, as well as with our business partners in the paper community," says John Fosmire, Chairman, Anderson Lithograph. "Anderson Lithograph's certification provides our customers with an additional option to help reduce the environmental impact of their printed materials."
The chain-of-custody certificate was issued in recognition of the integrity of Anderson Lithograph's paper-materials handling processes. "After thorough facility audits, SCS determined that Anderson Lithograph has the necessary control systems in place to monitor the receipt, storage, processing, and sale of certified goods," said Dr. Wolfram Pinker, director of chain-of-custody certification for Scientific Certification Systems, which awarded the certificate.
" Anderson's clients can be confident that when they ask for FSC certified paper, they will be receiving it," Dr. Pinker said. Because the FSC system requires the ability to accurately track a finished product back to a certified forest of origin, only printers who have attained chain-of-custody certification are entitled to apply the FSC trademark logo to projects printed on FSC paper.
" Anderson Lithograph's certification extends the FSC paper option reach to a wide range of corporate clients," said Roger Dower, President of FSC-US. We are pleased that such an environmental leader as Anderson Lithograph has shown this commitment to making FSC paper and printing more widely available nationwide."

The Forest Stewardship Council is an international not-for-profit organization that supports environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's working forests. FSC promotes responsible forest management by evaluating and accrediting certifiers, by encouraging the development of national and regional forest management standards, and by providing public education and information about independent, third-party certification as a tool for ensuring that the world's forests are protected for future generations. Currently, some 14 million acres of forestland in North America and 85 million acres worldwide have been certified as "well-managed" under the FSC system.
