Kimberly Clark Brings FSC-Certified KLEENEX to the Professional Market, And More

Type: Newsletter Article

Kimberly-Clark Professional* provides essential solutions for a healthier, safer and more productive workplace. These include a unique portfolio of innovative, cost-effective and sustainable offerings for office buildings and lodging properties, healthcare facilities, manufacturing environments, laboratories and cleanrooms, educational facilities, food preparation and processing operations, and home professionals. Its trusted global brands include KLEENEX, SCOTT, and WYPALL, among others.

In 2009, Kimberly-Clark Professional became the first North American tissue producer to earn FSC Chain-of-Custody certification for a range of its KLEENEX and SCOTT tissue and towel products. This year, the organization is reinforcing its commitment to FSC by expanding its certification to a large majority of its tissue and towel products.

Kimberly-Clark Professional is also the platinum-level sponsor of Design & Build with FSC at Greenbuild 2011 in Toronto.

According to Howard Connell, global sustainability leader for Kimberly-Clark Professional, “We are committed to responsible fiber sourcing and practices that reduce our impact on the environment. FSC certification is an integral part of our sustainability strategy and reinforces our commitment to reducing pressure on precious natural forests and ecosystems, while maintaining the high quality and standards of our trusted brands. Our approach to sustainability begins with understanding that the way we use resources today shapes the world of tomorrow, leading us to focus on reducing consumption at every stage of the product lifecycle, from design and manufacture, to distribution and disposal. This is the backbone of our Reduce Today, Respect Tomorrow* sustainability efforts.”

Kimberly-Clark Professional is one of four business segments of Kimberly-Clark Corporation, which serves 1.3 billion people every day in 150 countries through its well-known global brands. The company holds the No. 1 or No. 2 share position in more than 80 countries.

The company is committed to the sustainable use of natural resources and works with like-minded organizations, such as FSC, to support this goal. In fact, Kimberly-Clark gives preference for FSC certified wood fiber and believes that, for consumers, this is one of the most respected assurances that the forest products are from sources managed with consideration for people, wildlife and the environment.

Due to a core belief that what is good for business must also be good for the planet, Kimberly-Clark in 2009 committed to using 40 percent of either recycled fiber or FSC certified wood fiber in all of its North American tissue products. By the end of 2010, Kimberly-Clark surpassed this goal by a large margin and achieved 56.8 percent.
